HomeImprovementsDepot.com was one of the very first blogs I began writing as a hobby. The home improvement blog with the rather uncreative name was originally meant to be nothing more than a sort of online depository of the home improvement projects I had completed around my 50-year-old house.
My wife and I had moved in just nine months before and I found myself spending almost every weekend changing out lights or painting rooms or putting up crown molding. At some point while I was stripping wallpaper and painting the room that would become my son’s nursery I decided that I had better start keeping track of everything I did in the house in case I ever needed to go back and reference it.
Maybe the paint fumes were just getting to me but I thought it would be a really great idea to write an article listing all the room painting tips I had stumbled across over the previous few months. I thought it would be incredibly useful to have all the paint colors listed as well.
So I started a blog about home improvements in July of 2006.
And then I totally ignored it for about 3 months until my son was born and I was hanging out at home between the seemingly unending and random nap and feeding cycles. Needing something to do, I began researching some home improvement projects and then began writing about some of the things I had already accomplished. I quickly began getting compliments and emails from people asking for tips and tricks on the articles I had written, so I kept going.
I still enjoy writing about new home improvement projects I’ve accomplished and giving out free home repair tips and tricks that I’ve figured out over the years. In 2011 I started posting some home improvement videos to go along with my writing. I have a little less time these days than I did in the past, but I still take plenty of photos and try to write up most of the home improvement projects I complete around the house when time allows.
